IF is a cultural centre promoting French language learning and culture in Bilbao and Spain and part of Institut Français network around the world. administered by the French Foreign Ministry.

The IF offers French language courses for B1 to C2. The Institute is an accredited official examination centre where it is possible to pass and obtain a French language certification such as DELF-DALF. As well as including a cultural department, and a media library.

IF welcomes around 1,000 students and 2,000 candidates sit for the examinations each year.

The courses taught at IF empower young people between the ages of 12 and 17 to add value to their personal, academic and, in the long term, as young professionals.

Thanks to a new development methodology for assesing students’ communication skills, the teachers count on a project-based linguistics and method of teaching, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
