In addition to PCBH history and heritage back in 1898 when Manuel Calvo y Aguirre, a Basque leading merchant in colonial sugar industry in Cuba, returned to his hometown Portugalete and built his own mansion in a colonial architectural style with colours symbolize Cuban culture of yellow, green, blue and grey in the hotel facades, the foyer and its 74 rooms, sits astride the tidal Nervion estuary whose outlet is into the Bay of Biscay, within walking distance to the world’s oldest suspension bridge, a world heritage site by UNESCO, commonly known as Bizkaia Bridge, locally as Puente Colgante, joins the two banks of the Nervion estuary, connecting the two towns, Portugalete, and Getxo.
