October 25 at 7:00 PM: The Lumbreras Gallery in Bilbao will host the opening of the exhibitions “Fleeting Moments” by David Hornback and “19.02” by Garazi Etxebarria Azurmendi, with both artists in attendance. Both exhibitions will run until December 5.
David Hornback
David Hornback (Los Angeles, 1962) won a Pulitzer Prize with the San Jose Mercury News team for coverage of the Loma Prieta earthquake in San Francisco in 1989. He was also named College Photographer of the Year in the U.S. His career as a photojournalist has taken him to work with National Geographic, GEO, Time, The New York Times, and Newsweek, among other publications. He has covered events such as conflicts in West Berlin, the fall of the Berlin Wall, earthquakes in California, and oil spills in Texas. Additionally, he documented World War II veterans returning to Normandy 60 years after D-Day. His photography book, Where the Hell is Wichita?, captures the early years of a Kansas family and has been showcased in exhibitions in New York, Berlin, Milan, Naples, Bilbao, and Madrid.

Garazi Etxebarria Azurmendi
Garazi Etxebarria Azurmendi (Galdakao, 1996) is the first of four artists to exhibit in the gallery as part of the JOVEN LLAMA JOVEN project for the 2024/2025 season. In her own words, her artistic process transcends the studio, capturing images of painted walls and stains on the ground, which she interprets as forms of art. This connection between the everyday and the creative allows her to explore new dimensions. Garazi focuses on gesture, textures, and color, moving away from formal recognizability. While she often works with monochromatic pieces, color choice remains one of the most important and challenging decisions in her process.
