La Viña de Abelardo
La Viña de Henao is now La Viña de Abelardo – just across the street.
For nearly 20 years, La Viña de Henao was one of Bilbao’s must-visit spots, a beloved reference for traditional Basque cuisine.
They’ve moved to a new location—on the same street, right across the road—and with the move comes a new name: La Viña de Abelardo.
The new space is cozy and full of light, designed in collaboration with Olive Store to resemble a classic French bistro.
Everything else remains just as it’s always been: a warm, family-friendly atmosphere, excellent seasonal and local ingredients, and a carefully curated wine cellar personally selected by Abelardo.
Feli and Abelardo, together with their daughters Agurtzane and Kistine, continue to work every day to serve the best of the best: the famous sapito (monkfish), baby squid, bacalao al pil-pil, and their celebrated offal dishes are still the stars of the menu.
On weekends, seafood takes center stage, with top-quality shrimp and prawns delivered fresh from Isla Cristina every Thursday.
Don’t leave without trying their signature desserts: the flambéed torrija, creamy rice pudding, homemade egg flan, or the special cake brought in from a bakery in Torrelavega.
