Casa Rufo
Our Story
Casa Rufo is both a gourmet grocery store and a restaurant. Jose Luis Pérez Landeta has been at the helm for nearly three decades, turning it into one of Bilbao’s most iconic dining spots. Casa Rufo tells the story of several generations brought together by a shared passion for great food and a love of sports.
It all began back in 1902 at number 2, Hurtado Amezaga street, with a grocery store that quickly became a local reference thanks to its commitment to quality.
In 1955, Don Rufino—a beloved figure among those who knew him—gave the business his name. After the original building was demolished to make way for the Banco de Vizcaya, the shop moved to its current location.
Now, Jose Luis carries on the legacy with dedication and daily effort, making visitors from all over the world say: “You eat so well in Bilbao!”
The Restaurant
Warmth, charm, and authenticity are just some of the words most often used to describe Casa Rufo. With several unique spaces, each with its own atmosphere, it even allows guests to dine inside the shop. At Casa Rufo, everyone finds their perfect corner.
Casa Rufo is a truly authentic place. Since 1995, it has been a classic in Bilbao, where a special ambiance is felt from the moment you step into the delicatessen that welcomes you—and where you can also enjoy a meal. Founded as a store in 1955, it later gave birth to the restaurant.
The wine cellar boasts an extensive selection of wines from various regions and countries, along with an exceptional collection of top-quality brandies.
Casa Rufo’s authenticity, expertise, and top-tier ingredients have made it a true benchmark of traditional Basque cuisine in Bilbao.
The Shop
Casa Rufo began as a gourmet grocery store where, in the back room, spontaneous meals and snacks were held—often attended by Athletic Club players and friends from near and far—all organized by the charismatic Rufo.
Today, his son Jose Luis continues the tradition, keeping a delicatessen at the entrance filled with top-quality gastronomic products.
Here, you’ll find an outstanding selection of products from La Oka.
