Santurtzi Itsasoa Museoa

Santurtzi´s Sea Museum

Located in Santurtzi’s fishing port, only 20 minutes from Bilbao by train or metro. (Santurtzi Station)

The century-old Fish Auction House is currently home to the Fishermen’s Guild, the auction room, the fish market and the Santurtzi Itsasoa Museoa–Sea Museum.

Santurtzi Itsasoa Museoa chronicles the seafaring history of Santurtzi and its people on an audiovisual guided tour.

It presents the link between Santurtzi and the sea in all its aspects: professional, cultural, recreational, social: not forgetting that much of the maritime heritage lies in the people.

This museum offers different activities, such as dramatized tours complete with an old-style fish auction.

You can continue the visit outside the building, feeling the maritime atmosphere of the fishing port. This is where fresh local catches of fish are unloaded and auctioned daily. The seafront promenade that contours the Abra Bay is ideal for a stroll.

It belongs to the Basque Coast Museums and EUROPEAN ROUTE OF INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE (www.erih.net)
