Bilbao Fine Arts Museum is currently one of the main museums in the country.
It is characterized by its chronological breadth, covering from the thirteenth century to the present day.
During its more than 100 years of history, the collaboration between civil society, local artists and public institutions have determined its configuration.
This has made it possible to assemble an extensive collection, considered one of the most important and varied in all of Spain.
More than 10,000 objects make up the museum’s collection distributed in five major sections.
These are: Ancient Art, Modern and Contemporary Art, Basque Art, Works on Paper and Applied Arts.
The backbone of the collection is the Spanish school to whose ancient and modern examples are added the current manifestations of Basque art.
The wide representation of other schools and some examples of impressionist and post-impressionist avant-garde offer the necessary international context to Spanish and Basque art.
In its role as a public cultural entity, its mission is to gather, conserve, study and exhibit its own collection.
They also seek to enrich it, maintain services and promote quality activities.
